See things from the architect’s point of view in two short films: Architects’ Sketches

At a time when, in many areas, things are developing from analogue to digital, it is important to hold on to the fact that both working methods have their own justification and each has its own strengths. For example, the analogue approach to architecture can provide a special insight into an individual architect. This is evident in two short films about architects and their free-hand sketches.

The artist Bjørn Nørgaard once said that “the sketch is the essence of being an architect”. In the light of this, you can learn a lot about an individual architect by seeing how he or she draws and transfers visions to paper. Two short films now give you that opportunity. They are the first of a series, which will demonstrate how Danish and foreign architects sketch.

The films are both documentation and a poetic exposition of what architects do when they sketch, of their personal expression and the special space that emerges between the pen strokes.

The first architects to have their sketching filmed are Poul Ingemann, Associate Professor at the Institute of Architecture and Culture, and Jan Søndergaard, Professor at the Institute of Architecture and Technology.

The films have been made by Associate Professor, Jacob Bang and part-time teacher, Per Henriksen, both from the Institute of Architecture and Design.
