EXHIBIT OPENING "THE ARCTIC" FRIDAY 6TH MARCH 15:00
During the fall semester of 2014, twenty-eight students travelled to the arctic regions to investigate this challenging environment with their own constructions and prototypes.
From Greenland to Iceland and Svalbard, they ventured into storms and boiling landscapes, sub-zero temperatures and endless winter nights, from towns and infrastructure installations to environmental disasters and volcanoes, in order to survey first-hand, and through their devices, engage one to one with the process of site specific design, by charting the potentials of these territories out of balance, in the back-yards of our society. These expeditions and experiments are their first steps towards proposing a critical and alternative approach to architectural design. Welcome to the master course Architecture and Extreme Environments.
