Fashion for Impact

In a theory course combining academic texts with making, first year KADK fashion master students explored the blurred boundaries between art and fashion through practice.

Working in a wide range of materials from fabric to print, foam, concrete, light and performance, the students dove into the mutual cross-pollination of fashion and art as an exercise in not only positioning themselves in the field of fashion but also on a more general level projecting future potentials of fashion through artistic measures. 

The results shed light on the the futility of categories bringing attention instead to providing fashion objects with agency for disruption, highlighting fashion’s potential for impacting change to social norms, questioning the design process as part of reconfiguring the fashion system and the power of functionality as one of fashion’s weapons.
