Program
Computation in Architecture
Projekt af
Joanna Maria Lesna

This project explores the possibility of using fungi-based and algae-based biopolymers in architecture.

The research focused on a sustainable manufacturing process in which material design and organisation are informed by material performance, creating homogenous and complex architectural panels for a temporary agricultural shading system, which decomposes in soil and water after seasonal use and improves soil quality.

The investigation was based on parallel trajectories: exploring materials made of renewable and biodegradable resources available and abundant in every habitat on earth; advancement of tools and methods for in-situ robotic, additive manufacturing of biopolymers; development of a strategy for functionality grading the material properties to optimise the material distribution and reduce building-material waste.
