Studio POLY

Program
Furniture Design & Industrial Design
Projekt af
Sofie Rueskov Sundby, Timian Cecilie Westerberg, Frederikke Wild Meier

The project Studio POLY consists of two chairs, made entirely of recycled HDPE plastic. The plastic is produced by AVL A/S which it collects from Danish households.

AVL cleans and shreds the plastic so it can be reused in new products. We have made this plastic sheet material by melting the granulated plastic in steel moulds, as a kind of press-moulding. By experimenting with the production-method, we developed and infused this material with a new, interesting aesthetic, resembling plastic terrazzo.

Studio POLY is based on utilising existing resources, making it part of a circular economy where materials can be recycled forever.

Plastic is a durable, long-lasting material which can be melted and reused indefinitely, as long as the materials are kept clean.

The project is sponsored by AVL A/S.
