Denim production is one of the most water-demanding processes in the clothing industry. To combat this, material designers can use existing denim products rather than virgin denim.

'White Time' uses second-hand denim clothing as the material for new designs. Strongly influenced by the garments’ past life – such as jeans – the new design’s transformation is represented through the use of white thread.

The fashion industry is well-known for its overproduction. Concurrent with this, second-hand clothing is globally stockpiled and often shipped to Africa, blocking internal markets in the process. Many fashion companies prefer to burn their stocks rather than resell them to other companies.

This project addresses the potential of creating a robust distribution and infrastructure system for collecting high-quality clothes and textiles that can be repurposed for new designs as a sustainable design strategy.
