KADK hosted a debate under the heading “Old News?” at Designmuseum Danmark as an occasion for putting Copenhagen Fashion Week in perspective. Key themes were innovation in fashion today, the role of history in fashion inspiration and conditions for future fashion designers.

The panel was made up of digital editor of Cover magazine Moussa Mchangama Jonsson, Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark and expert on design law Stina Teilmann-Lock, assistant professor at the University of Copenhagen and expert on Danish fashion Marie Riegels Melchior and Fashion Design student at KADK Stine Holm Jensen. KADK’s Maria Mackinney-Valentin was the moderator.

Part of the event was a curated performance by Fashion Design students who showed films, photography and outfits from a second semester fashion history course. The inspiration ranged from ancient Mesopotamian body ideals over Medieval status hierarchies to the fascination with new technology in the 1960s.
