Regina Bittner: Schools of Departure - design pedagogies in transcultural dialogue
Modern design schools of the post-war era, such as Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm (1953-68) and National Institute of Design Ahmedabad (1961-), were fertile forums for debates focusing on the recovery of a design praxis that critically intervened in everyday life. Regina Bittner uses Bauhaus as a lens through which different interpretations of, and references to, the changed conditions of the modern in the 1960s become apparent in cross-cultural dialogues.
Regina Bittner is Director of the Academy at Bauhaus Dessau Stiftung, Germany. She is responsible for their masters programme in design, Bauhaus, and architectural research. Bittner has curated several exhibitions on Bauhaus and cultural history, and engaged in research on the modern and cultural history, migration, international architecture, and urbanism.
Peter Thule Kristensen, professor at the Architecture School’s Institute for Architecture og Design will welcome Regina Bittner.
