Join us for an online open lecture with the renowned architect Dorte Mandrup. In this lecture, she will focus on the “skin” in her architecture.
Dorte Mandrup, founder of Dorte Mandrup A/S, is one of Denmark’s most renowned architects with an outstanding portfolio, including both public projects for schools and kindergartens, as well as housing and cultural projects. Her architecture often combines relatively simple concepts relating to the use of materials, textures and detailing that closely respond to site conditions, which evoke the imagination and produce a subtle ambiguous effect. In this lecture, she will focus on the “skin” in her architecture.
This lecture is part of the series More than Surface. The series is organized by the master’s program Spatial Design at the Institute of Architecture and Design. The point of departure for the lecture series is Gottfried Semper’s and Adolf Loos’ idea of dressing being even more principal in architecture than its supportive structure. This idea is expanded upon, to include a focus on the potential of details and materials, in a lecture series that involves historical and contemporary examples, researchers and practicing architects.
