Dressing the Space

Join us for an open lecture with Nille Juul-Sørensen, architect and Principal at Arup.

Nille Juul-Sørensen, architect and Principal at Arup, has for many years been in charge of architectural design, most notable among others, the renowned Copenhagen Metro project. He is an expert when it comes to large scale infrastructure projects, where the architecture is oftendefined by the last 20 cms that “dresses” the construction. In the lecture, Nille Juul-Sørensen will focus on this layer and on the architect’s and designer’s ability to influence these types of projects. 

This lecture is part of the series More than Surface. The series is organized by the master’s program Spatial Design at the Institute of Architecture and Design. The point of departure for the lecture series is Gottfried Semper’s and Adolf Loos’ idea of dressing being even more principal in architecture than its supportive structure. This idea is expanded upon, to include a focus on the potential of details and materials, in a lecture series that involves historical and contemporary examples, researchers and practicing architects.
