Open lecture: The mysterious case of the curtailed g: an outsider's view of Danish lettering

The Copenhagen cityscape is marked by lettering that features a minuscule g which – to foreigners' eyes – has been cut short. It is missing its lower half. This talk will take the peculiar g, which has become known as the 'Danish g', as a starting point to examine style in Danish lettering, from the nineteenth century up to the digital era.
About Christopher Burke
Christopher Burke is Research Fellow at the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication, University of Reading, UK. He has designed four typefaces (Celeste, Celeste Sans, Pragma and Parable) and written two books, Paul Renner: the art of typography (1998) and Active literature: Jan Tschichold and New Typography (2007). He co-edited Isotype: design and contexts, 1925–1971 (2013).
