CEPHAD 2010 Conference

CEPHAD 2010 // The borderland between philosophy and design research

Conference at the Danish Design School in Copenhagen // January 2010

Design: Helle Hove

Purpose
The purpose of the conference is ‘to stimulate the flow of ideas between research in philosophy and research in design’ in accordance with the mission of Centre for Philosophy and Design (CEPHAD), as stated at www.cephad.org. At an operational level, the conference aims at creating personal and institutional contacts of lasting value for research cooperation across national and discipline borders.

Welcoming addresses by Anne-Louise Sommer, Rector at The Danish Design School, and Per Galle, Director of CEPHAD

Audience
The expected audience includes researchers in design, philosophy or other relevant disciplines, whose work may benefit from or contribute to cross-fertilization between philosophy and design research.

For Ph.D. students, a pre-conference master class will be conducted by leading researchers, including invited speakers of the conference (see list below). For the students, actively participating in the master class, and attending the conference itself, will constitute a formal Ph.D. course under the auspices of The Danish Centre for Design Research. ECTS points: 2.5.

Conference Programme
The conference has been designed to stimulate fruitful personal interaction so as to fulfill the above purpose. Emphasis will be on exchange of promising ideas, rather than on showcasing finished work. The programme mainly consists of two kinds of sessions:

  • Plenary sessions dedicated to 20-minute presentations by an invited speaker, followed by a moderated discussion by a panel, and by delegates ex auditorio.
  • Table sessions at small tables with a maximum of 10 chairs each. One delegate, the table holder, will make a 20-minute presentation based on a presentation item that has been submitted, evaluated, accepted, and published on the conference web site ahead of the conference. Time for a (moderated) discussion is allocated to each table session. No projector will be available, but because of the limited group size, table holders may, if they so wish, bring a laptop for display of slide shows directly on the computer screen. Alternatively, or as a supplement, handouts printed in advance may be used.
