On Friday 29 January 98 new architecture and design graduates received their diplomas at the winter diploma ceremony. In keeping with tradition, scholarships from the likes of Duravit and Vola were awarded to some of the talented graduates.

KADK’s Heads of Subject, Tine Kjølsen (Design School) and Peter Thule Kristensen (School of Architecture handed out the diplomas, while KADK’s Rector, Lene Dammand Lund spoke to the graduates about the working life that lies ahead:

“I hope you have the courage to do things your own way, and that towing the line is a waste of time. I hope many of you choose a more intricate path: a job in a municipality on Falster, where you can experience what it is like to be alone with your professionalism, being in demand for your expertise… A job in a manufacturing company, which has never employed an artistic scholar before, where you can show them how your design skills, your empathy for users and your capacity to tackle complex issues can be used at the highest strategic level in the company,” said Lene Dammand Lund.

“Remember that you are artistic, reflective practitioners. That is your strength, and it can be applied in many other ways than just the mainstream.  And to put your skills to the test, it isn’t enough just to go off and show what you did here. You must translate what you learned here so it responds to the societal challenges that everyone is aware we have, making sure that the solution you offer is the best one.”
