A team of students from the Institute of Architecture and Design have got through to the finals of the LIXIL International Student Architectural Competition: Comfort and Lightness. The winner of the contest will realise their project together with the acclaimed Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma.
This years LIXIL competition is focusing on the environment, and the entrants to the competition were given the task of designing a sustainable, mobile house for five people. The house is to be used in a particular area of meadowland, Taiki-cho in Hokkaido.
The idea is for the mobile house to enable its residents to live comfortably and close to the surrounding countryside at all times of the year.
The three remaining finalists come from: L’École d’Architecture de Paris La Villette, Yokohama National University and KADK. In the second round of the competition, the three teams must devise a final project plan for their mobile houses.
The winning team will be chosen in June and will receive a prize of $15,000. They will then realise their project in Taiki-cho, under the supervision of the renowned architect, Kengo Kuma.
