Meet KADK at the Venice Architecture Biennale

Date

At the Venice Architecture Biennale you can meet a number of KADK’s researchers and architects. The main theme of the Biennale is how architects can improve the living conditions of ordinary people – in the front line of society. This area of focus is an essential element in the DNA of KADK.

The projects of the researchers and architects from KADK have responded to such life-enhancing challenges as: increasing loneliness and alienation in cities; lack of a social sense of community in an urban context; explosive urbanisation in the developing world; flooding caused by climate change; and architecture that can keep us healthy. The projects also show examples of KADK’s broad approach to architecture, based on research, artistic development and practical work.

The Rector, Lene Dammand Lund is delighted about KADK’s participation in the Biennale. “We are proud that there are so many contributions to this year’s Biennale from researchers and architects from KADK,” she says. “This indicates that KADK is in the front line in terms of architectural research and teaching and creating better living conditions for the masses, and that KADK represents a major part of Danish architecture’s food chain, when it comes to creating an international brand and enhancing Denmark’s competitive position.”

A “curiosity cabinet” of projects
KADK’s contributions form part of the exhibition, The Art of Many and the Right to Space in the Danish pavilion, organised by the Danish Architecture Centre. The exhibition comprises about 130 projects and is a “curiosity cabinet” of projects.

The Danish exhibition is a response to the overall theme of the Biennale and the title, Reporting from the Front. This year’s Biennale is curated by the Chilean architect, Alejandro Aravena. He recently paid a visit to KADK on the occasion of the international conference, Forming Welfare.
