On Thursday 19 November, a multifunctional sofa, which can be packed up and stored in very little space, won Emil Lagoni Valbak the title of DesignTalent 2015 at the Danish Entrepreneurship Award 2015 in Fredericia.

On Thursday, more than 6,300 creative young talents, educators and business people celebrated innovation and entrepreneurship in educational institutions at the Danish Entrepreneurship Award. The many young people had an opportunity to compete in six different competitions. These included the DesignTalent competition, in which young people from design and architecture schools exhibited their designs, while also having to show that they could incorporate business sense into those designs.

KADK design talent won

Emil Lagoni Valbak entered the DesignTalent competition with ‘Adapt’, an item of furniture that adapts to the user and provides a framework for many domestic activities. It is a knockdown item of furniture. The sofa, stool and cushions can be stored in a box that is a mere 100x60x30 cm. Emil Lagoni Valbak graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design in 2015.

“It’s really great to win. It was very surprising, because I think there were so many cool designs. So winning is a huge pat on the back,” said Emil Lagoni Valbak when he won DesignTalent 2015. The prize was DKK 10,000, sponsored by UPS. Emil Lagoni Valbak will use the money to promote his design.

A total of 18 talented designers were selected and present at the competition on the day. In addition to DesignTalent, pupils and students from all over the country took part in the Idea Competition, Da Vinci, Edison, Micro Scholarships and the Poster Competition.

“We saw some excellent ideas here at the Danish Entrepreneurship Award, which have great potential. It’s really impressive how committed the young people are, and how much they prepared themselves to present and showcase their idea or product. I hope that today has given all the young people a lot of knowledge to take home, which they can use to work on their ideas, but which will also benefit them later in life,” said Christian Vintergaard, CEO of the Foundation for Entrepreneurship.

Danish Entrepreneurship Award 2015 was organised by the Foundation for Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Triangle Region Denmark, and was part of Global Entrepreneurship Week Denmark.
