Rector Speaks at International Summit

This week Denmark hosts the partnership meeting, P4G, at which companies, organisations and politicians from all over the world gather to develop green, public-private partnerships. KADK’s Rector, Lene Dammand Lund is taking part.

On 19 and 20 October in Copenhagen, more than 700 guests from 50+ countries will attend the partnership meeting, which the Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen (V) will open. Guests include heads of state from Korea, Vietnam, Ethiopia and the Netherlands, organisations such as Red Cross International, C40, World Economic Forum, the Danish Refugee Council and corporate executives from Unilever, Siemens, IBM and Maersk. The Rector of KADK, Lene Dammand Lund will also be attending.

How do we measure the value of partnership?
The goal of P4G - ‘Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 - is to prepare the ground for new collaborations to create market-driven green solutions and to help realise the UN’s Global Goals and the aims of the Paris Agreement.

For some time now, sustainable solutions have been a priority at KADK. As you know, that is because two years ago, KADK became the first institution of higher education in the world to consciously target their teaching and research at the UN’s Global Goals.

“In recent years, both in teaching and in research at KADK, there have been an increasing number of collaborations with other educational institutions, authorities and the business community. The work on the UN’s Global Goals has intensified this development. I am looking forward to talking about these collaborations and drawing inspiration from the experience of partnerships elsewhere in the world. But I also look forward to talking about the challenges I perceive. For one thing, it is about the way in which we measure education and research today. Lists of publications, graduate employment, lifetime salaries etc. reveal nothing about the value we create through collaboration and partnerships,” says Lene Dammand Lund.

Focus on Sustainable Towns and Cities
Even before the summit, the foundation behind P4G awarded funding to selected partnerships, which it regards as particularly promising. For example, the pump company, Grundfos and a local

water company in Vietnam received start-up funding for a hydro technology project aimed at reducing Vietnam’s huge water wastage.

The P4G summit is focusing particularly on five of the 17 Global Goals: eliminating hunger; ensuring clean water; ensuring clean energy; ensuring responsible consumption; and creating sustainable towns and cities.

Lene Dammand Lund is giving a talk in the sustainable towns and cities group together with Frank Jensen (Lord Mayor of Copenhagen), Anne Hidalgo (Mayor of Paris), Jens Birgersson (CEO, Rockwool), Mark Watts (Executive Director of the Cities Network, C40) and Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen (CEO of Novo Nordisk).

KADK and the UN’s Global Goals
KADK has devoted three academic years to developing design and architecture, which can support the UN goals for a sustainable world, at the same time creating the basis for a new Danish growth sector rooted in innovative solutions to national and global problems. This is reflected in teaching, research and final projects.
