ADAPTIVE REUSE - SANKT ANDREAS KIRKE

Adaptive reuse is becoming an important stream these years. Especially the abandoned churches in Copenhagen are increasingly looking for new use. For this project I chose one of the sixteen churches on the suggesting list to close down as a practice. Skt. Andreas Kirke is located between Copenhagen University and Botanical Garden which strongly contains academic and musical relations. A new space for library with cultural concert hall experiments the programmatic transformation as a church and the dialogue between old and new.

The intention was to find out a suitable program for the space by the lacal needs and capture the spirits in the existing fabric and explore innovative ways to reconcile real estate development with historical preservation and environmental protection by recycling existing structures. By adding new layers onto the old trace, suggesting a new concept of historical heritage conservation.
