KADK are very pleased to invite everyone to the open public lecture "More than Enough" by Maria Smith (UK) and Phineas Harper (UK), the curators of the Oslo Architecture Triennale 2019 entitled “Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth”.

2020 is a critical year for architecture. The last 12 months saw cities, citizens and architects the world over declare climate emergencies heralding profound change for all urban practitioners. Yet as fires rage from the Amazon to Australia, the burning question remains: how should architecture respond amid the unprecedented ecological and social challenge we face?

In this lecture, Maria Smith and Phineas Harper, curators of the Oslo Architecture Triennale, cut through the greenwash, spin, and specious claims of supposedly sustainable design with a propositional critique linking embodied carbon, circular economics, and social justice. The architecture of the future must abandon the crumbling paradigm of endless economic growth, and embrace a new economy of vivacious cultural life and shared plenty in which human and ecological flourishing matter most. Welcome to the architecture of degrowth.

This lecture has been organised by the Strategic Design & Entrepreneurship MA program at the Institute of Architecture & Design (IBD), KADK.
