During the fall semester of 2014, twenty-eight students travelled to the arctic regions to investigate this challenging environment with their own constructions and prototypes.
From Greenland to Iceland and Svalbard, they ventured into storms and boiling landscapes, sub-zero temperatures and endless winter nights, from towns and infrastructure installations to environmental disasters and volcanoes, in order to survey faraway sites, first-hand, and through their devices, engage one to one with the process of site specific design, by charting the potentials and disasters of these territories out of balance and in the back-yards of our society.
These expeditions are the first step towards proposing a critical and alternative approach to architectural design, to be developed during the second semester.
