Open lecture by Maibritt Pedersen Zari (School of Architecture, Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand).

Introduction of Emanuele Naboni (Institute of Architecture and Technology)

This presentation introduces the concept of regenerative architecture and urban design. The talk will explore how ecosystems and the services they provide could be emulated and used to form site specific performance goals in the creation of radically more sustainable urban environments.

Dr Maibritt Pedersen Zari’s research explores architecture and urban design through understanding ecosystems, changing the goals from sustainable to regenerative design, and integrating complex social factors into design. She has published extensively in these areas as well as in urban climate change adaptation and biodiversity issues, architectural biomimicry, and biophilia. Her recently published book is entitled ‘Regenerative Urban Design and Ecosystem Biomimicry’. She teaches at the School of Architecture, Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand and is currently a visiting scholar at Arkitektskolen in Aarhus, Denmark.
