Empowerment through Design

Dato
20.03.2018

Project by lecturer Grethe Weber and Sine Stenbek Andersen, Institute of Architecture and Design. Since 2008 students specialising in textiles, furniture, clothing and visual communication have taken part in the project.

“Empowerment through Design” was launched in 2008 to facilitate dialogue, exchange and sharing among Danish designers and handy craft women in Morocco and Tunisia. The project aims to empower handy craft women by providing training/education in design techniques, business activities and networking. Through their own craft art practice, the women train to become businesswomen, teachers and leaders, thus becoming role models for others, and thereby enhance their influence in society.

Visualizing professional dreams for the future

Design as an empowerment tool is unique. Through design education, the participating women are given tools for developing their professional skills, creating new products and managing production, product quality and business in a sustainable manner. Through technical training, networking training and business activities, the women develop and enhance their role in society and become more autonomous in the process.

The project is supported by:

The Danish Centre for Research on Women and Gender (Kvinfo)
The Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP)
