About the Institute of Architecture and Design

At the Institute of Architecture and Design, we educate both architects and designers. With artistic methods as our point of departure, architecture is developed in human scale and design in a spatial context.

In our educational programmes and our research, we work across design and architecture — and apply our learnings to businesses and organisations. We educate architects and designers with a sense of materials, light and tactility — and empower them to develop solutions to the complex challenges of our time. The programmes are all rooted in a Danish tradition of designing buildings, interiors, product and solutions. In our programmes, we perceive and recognise space — and embrace both the big picture and the small details, from the spaces themselves to the materials used.

The Institute carries out research and artistic research and has seven educational programmes in total — made for the architects and designers of the future.

"You experience a dynamic environment and a steep learning curve while sharing knowledge with students of diverse educational backgrounds. You realise that your success as a designer or architect depends on your ability to cooperate and understand the people you are working with".

In general terms, it is about bringing design and architecture together. Where an architect starts with the fitting out of a room, a furniture designer will consider man's needs first. The institute gathers the two in a common space and allows them to find each other.
